Writing at the Edge – 1st Webinar

Written 07.10.2024 by admin

The 1st Writing at the Edge Webinar was on October 3rd.

L to R: William Telford, Keith Rossiter, Jonathan Posner, Jason Mann

The webinar was all about helping authors pitch their novel to agents, publishers and readers – as well (as part of the writing process) to themselves.

Three types of pitch were covered during the hour:

The Escalator pitch – one or two short sentences to explain the story conept in outline, not just to family, friends and potential readers, but also to help the author keep their writing on track. It covers:
– who is the protagonist?
– what is their goal or challenge
– What is at stake?
It can also give a feel for the kind of world the story is set in (more of that in the next webinar!)

The Elevator Pitch – covering the same basic information, but adding in for the benefit of agents or publishers:
– Title
– Genre
– Length
– Competitors.

And finally, the Blurb – for the benefit of readers, giving them enough information to whet their appetite for the book, but not giving too much away.

The next webinar is on Thursday November 7, 2024. The subject is World-Building in Fiction Writing: Techniques for creating immersive and believable worlds in genres such as fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction. Book your FREE tickets here.

I just wanted to say that the webinar was fantastic, I really enjoyed watching it and learning about pitches and the different types of ideas to use.
