The River of Fire – coming soon

The plan is to publish the third Mary Fox adventure in time for Christmas 2024.

Jonathan Posner’s new book, The River of Fire, pitches his ever-resourceful heroine Mary Fox into yet more life-or-death situations. It opens with a fight in a misty graveyard against a vengeful, crossbow-weilding widow, then goes on to a series of new challenges as Mary makes her way down through Europe towards the town of Pozzuoli near Naples.

Jonathan says he doesn’t want to spoil the story, but one thing he will say, is that Mary gets caught up in a real event. This was the assassination of Alessandro de Medici by his cousin Lorenzo de Medici, in Florence, January 1537. Apparently there was a mysterious woman who helped entrap Alessandro (there really was) – except… might it not have been the woman everyone thought it was? Might it actually have been an English girl called Mary in disguise..?

As with the other two books, there’s a man who tugs at her heartstrings. This time it’s the handsome Neapolitan Angelo di Luca. Once again Mary must decide whether her future lies with a man, or if she should hang on to her hard-won independence.

“I find it fascinating to write Mary’s adventures. As a 21st century bloke, it reqiuires a lot of creative imagination to put myself in her shoes; a twenty-something 16th century woman. She’s quick-witted and resourceful, coming up with immediate responses to the dangers she’s in. Some of her ideas work; some don’t quite (or lead to further dangers) – but all are immensely enjoyable to write.
Of course, the solutions she works out in a few quick moments can sometimes take me much head-scratching, scribbling in my notebook, or even closing the laptop and going for a walk, before I punch the air and go ‘I got it! That’s what she’ll do!’

Coffee also helps.”
