About William

William is an experienced writer and journalist who has been involved with the writing scene in Plymouth for nearly two decades. He has run writing workshops, and helped authors hone their short stories and novels.

He has an MA in creative writing from the University of Plymouth and has had numerous short stories published in print and online, including in Lay of the Land, Clutter, Short Fiction Journal, Ink, Epizootics and Spelk. He has been shortlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize and his collection, How Love Works, was published by Waterhare Press in 2020.

William has read his short fiction at open mic events across the South West, including in Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol and Totnes. He has been asked to read his work at special events set up by organisations such as CrossCountry Writers, Creme de la Creme, Plymouth Pride and the University of Plymouth. He has been invited to read to audiences at the University of Plymouth, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Plymouth Central Library.

He is a member of Plymouth Athenaeum Writers, Saltash Writers’ Group and CrossCountry Writers. In 2016 and 2017 he was a co-organiser of the PlymLit literary festival in Plymouth. William writes the weekly Lit City column, detailing Plymouth’s writing scene, in The Herald, and has an extensive contacts list of authors, poets and publishers.

William has worked as a journalist for more than 30 years, mostly for The Herald, in Plymouth. He has worked as a reporter, news editor and business editor. His byline has appeared in print in the Daily Mirror, Western Morning News, The Herald, Sunday Independent, Cornish Guardian, When Saturday Comes, and other publications and online on PlymouthLive, DevonLive, CornwallLive and the national BusinessLive.

William is interested in all forms of fiction, but keen to work with authors penning literary and humorous writing. He would like to work with writers of young adult literature novels and authors who write science fiction, horror, and crime.
